One of Zimbabwe`s network provider, Econet is digging trenches all over Zimbabwe`s third largest city of Chitungwiza as they prepare to improve internet speed through the introduction of 4G and free up the congested network.

In August this year, Econet Zimbabwe launched Africa`s first Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in Victoria Falls in time for the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly held from August 24 to 29.

Zimbabwe`s Econet is proud of their new technology 4G which is yet to be available in many European countries. 4G enables users to have the fastest internet speed while using a mobile phone. Piles of tubing material could be seen dumped all over in Chitungwiza as the men work tirelessly.

These trenches according to Mr Nyoni of Surge Networxs, one of the supervisors of one of the teams working behind Saint Aidans school, will be lined with the optic fibre which will connect to the transmitters.

The optic fibre will improve the internet speed as well as decongest networking as well as being a foundation for future expansion.
News of The South was informed that the exercise will last till November and optic fibre will last for three generations.
While all this is part of development, trenches pose a great risk to the community especially in Chitungwiza where most hours of the night there is no electricity.

Fatal accidents occur in such circumstances as the trenches are not protected and residents can easily fall in the dark.
At the time of writing News of The South was still making efforts to contact econet for a comment as their phones went unanswered.
