Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South)- News of the South reports that former ZBC and prominent Broadcaster Eric Knight has joined ZANU PF.
This paper has it on good authority that Mr Knight applied to join the ruling party through its vibrant UK structures. This is a significant turn of events for Eric Knight who came to seek refuge and settle in the UK more than a decade ago supposedly running away from persecution by the then ZANU PF government of Robert Mugabe.
Mr Knight contested in the 2013 elections as an MDC super candidate and lost in the Mbare constituency in Harare.
However Mr Eric Knight’s defection to ZANU PF has not been without controversy.
There is suspicion that Mr Knight wants to use Zanu PF-UK membership to contest the 2023 elections. Zanu PF has rules that for one to be eligible to contest on their ticket, they should have been in the party for at least 5 or more years. But other sources close to Mr Knight and in the opposition claim that Mr Knight is still with the MDC. They claim that he is part of team that’s been deployed into Zanu PF to infiltrate and try to weaken Zanu PF-UK and it’s leadership.
Efforts to contact Mr Knight to clarify his current political activities have not been successful as his mobile phone kept on going to his voicemail.
However a member of ZANU PF UK Executive team refused to either confirm or deny receiving and processing Mr Eric Knight’s Zanu-PF membership application by by saying membership of the party in the UK is a sensitive issue and they prefer individuals themselves to comment on it unless one is a leader.
