2019, when we welcomed you behaved like a harmless fly
You pretended to be a year of hope and good fortune to mankind
Yet, you were a ravenous vampire in sheep’s clothing
You pretended to be a lame duck, yet you were the avenging spirit of Lucifer.
As you started to enjoy the comfort of our welcome
You changed colour like a chameleon
You hoodwinked us by your python like changing colours
You became ruthless like a drug dealer And untold suffering befell mankind , ln New Zealand you killed ninteen people on White Island through a volcanic eruption.
In Philippines a typhoon you killed many.
Your insatiable appetite for blood is also evidenced by many road accident victims in your belly.
Your cruel disdain for human life was seen through Cyclone Idai
Many Zimbabweans perished into the jaws of this ruthless storm.
As the nation was about to move on from this phenomenon,
You pounced again and claimed the life of the music hero,Oliver Mtukudzi
The nation was left bereft of quality, soothing music.
As this was not enough, you hit Zimbabwe again where it hurts most,
You claimed the lives of all weather heroes , Dumiso Dabengwa and Robert Mugabe.
2019, you caused untold suffering to the world and Zimbabwe in particular
In Zimbabwe the economy is in free fall and a menacing drought caused havoc to many.
2019 hurry up and go.No-one will miss you for being a double edged sword to Zimbabweans.
Rote in hell and rote fast, as we welcome 2020.
Happy New Year2020, a year of new beginnings.
Green shoots of hope are sprouting,l presume lightning doesn’t strike twice.
You won’t be missed 2019.
