Women Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) has moved a gear up in providing support to women in marginalised areas by increasing their quantitative and qualitative participation and influence in policy and decision making through the ‘Ground up’ campaign.

Ground up is a campaign aimed at raising women’s voices and uplift them in socio-economic, political and civil issues.

Its major thrust is to reach out to the women especially the marginalized (rural, disabled, economically dependent) etc, hence the mantra ‘Ground-up” meaning from the ground going up.

In an interview on the sidelines of a provincial stakeholders planning and review meeting on the Ground Up campaign, recently at a local hotel, a member who spoke to this paper on condition of anonymity said the campaign seeks to educate women in marginalised areas to be integrated in a society in which they exercise and enjoy their human rights and participate as equals in all political processes with full citizenship rights.

“For a long period of time most women including girls and young women have been marginalized.

“Thus, the Ground-Up campaign seeks to raise awareness, empower the marginalized and foster a way for an avalanche of opportunities for women at all levels and geographical settings.

“So as WCoZ we exist to strengthen the democracy and governance practices in Zimbabwe through the effective participation of women in all elected political offices and as political constituents,” noted the member.
