0 0THE STOLEN dress worn by actress Lupita Nyong’o at this year’s Oscars has been returned by the thief, after they realised that the 6,000 pearls attached to the gown were fake.
Nyong’o, who collected the Best Supporting Actress award at last year’s Oscar ceremony, designed the dress in collaboration with Calvin Klein’s creative director Francisco Costa.
Said to be worth $150,000 (£97,000), the glamorous garment was reported missing from the star’s Hollywood hotel room last week, but it has now been returned.
Calling celebrity gossip site TMZ on Friday (Feb 27), the thief recounted how he took a couple of pearls from the dress, got them checked out at LA’s Garment District, where he discovered the beads were worthless.
The criminal then contacted TMZ, a celebrity news site, to let them know that the gown had been abandoned in a hotel bathroom, scrunched up into a bin bag.
He said he called the news site because he wanted to let everyone know about “Hollywood’s fake b*****t.”

WORTHLESS: The thief returned the dress in a big ban, claiming it was made using fake pearls
TMZ then notified the LA County Sheriff’s Department and told them how to find the dress based on information the thief left.
According to the LA Sheriff’s Office, the dress “greatly resembles” the one worn by the 12 Years A Slave actress, and its authenticity is being verified.
Sources from law enforcement, have claimed that Calvin Klein never disclosed the nature of the pearls or the value of the dress.
And apparently, the only one who said the pearls were real and the dress was valued at $150,000 was Nyong’o’s stylist.-voice
