Harare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) – THERE is no doubt that talent indeed runs in the Mungoshi family after famous actress Jesesi, who is wife to renowned author Charles Mungoshi, and son Farai both walked away with awards at the just-ended National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) held in the capital recently.
Popularly known as Neria after her lead role in the film of the same name, Jesesi scooped the Outstanding Actress award (Film and Television) for her role in the television sitcom, “Muzita Rababa”, while Farai’s novel, “Behind the Wall Everywhere” emerged tops in the “Outstanding First Creative Published Works” category of the Literary Arts section.
Jesesi is a seasoned actress who has featured in numerous television dramas, but it was her starring role in the film feature “Neria” that earned her fame even beyond the country’s borders where the film was shown.
In the film, she starred alongside veteran musician Oliver Mtukudzi.

Farai, on the other hand, is following in his father’s footsteps as a writer, with the elder Mungoshi being a prolific writer of award-winning novels, poetry anthologies and plays both in English and Shona.
He is the author of the popular books “Waiting for the Rain”, “Coming of the Dry Season”, “The Setting Sun and the Rolling World”, “The Milkman Doesn’t only Deliver Milk”, “Writing Still,” “Branching Streams Flow in the Dark,” “Inongova Njake Njake Njake” and “Makunun’unu Maodza Moyo”, among others. He also translated Kenyan novelist Ngugi wa Thing’o’s popular novel “A Grain of Wheat” into the Shona language under the title “A Grain of Wheat”.

Farai is young brother to yet another Mungoshi wordsmith, Charles Jnr who has also penned his own novels.
Meanwhile, in the Theatre Awards, the play Liberation also made a big haul after two of its actors Everson Ndlovu and Rumbidzai Karize walked away with the Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Actress awards respectively.
In the Music Awards, musician Mukudzei Mukombe known as Jah Prayzah won the Outstanding Male Musician and Outstanding Song awards with his hit “Mdhara Vachauya”.
