Zimbabwe, Chiredzi. ( News Of The South) – Struggling Sungura artist Taruvinga Manjokoto popularly known as Sugar Sugar on Friday received a bailout after family members purchased a new set of musical instruments which he believes will transform his career.
The development comes after Sugar Sugar early this year retired from the capital city Harare to Chiredzi after failing to cope with pressing economic demands which resulted in him failing to pay his band members and rentals.
The Samaita Express band leader was reportedly become a menace to his family members in Chiredzi as he kept relying on them for his daily survival and this pushed them to save his talent by purchasing state-of-the-art musical instruments.
Speaking at handover ceremony held in Mkwasine in Chiredzi, family spokesperson Reason Dube said their brother Sugar Sugar had fallen on hard times in Harare and this pushed him to Chiredzi where he is currently staying with his family and band members.
Dube said the family saw it wise to bail him out and advance his once lucrative musical talent which was almost dead due to the unavailability of musical instruments.
“We met as a family and decided that we should source funds and purchase musical instruments to help Taruvinga rebrand his musical gift. Our big brother Oversea Mupambiki who is a businessman then decided to buy him a new set musical instruments and today we are happy to handover the instruments to him,” said Dube.
“The band still remains Samaita Express under Manjokoto`s leadership and currently he will be stationed in Chiredzi until his affairs improves and that when we would urge his to move to bigger towns such as Harare. Currently the family will cater for his band`s welfare until his things normalize,” Dube said.
Oversea Mupambiki said he was pushed by Sugar Sugar’s musician talent which was shrinking hence decided to run it alone and purchase instruments worth thousands for the Mai Rose hit maker.
“What I have done is for the Chiredzi Community to benefit. The instruments have no conditions attached to them, they belong to Sugar Sugar but I am urging him to desist from drinking beer too much and I wish to see him regaining his status in the music industry. It is to his benefit that he utilizes his talent,” said Mupambiki.
Manjokoto however said he was short of words to describe how delighted he was with the bailout but thanked the Samaita family for coming to his rescue.
“I can’t explain the joy which is over shadowing me today. I am failing to find kind words to say about the level of my happiness. I just promise the family that they will see changes especially on the way how I was managing my band. I promise my fans that they will now get quality music,” he said.
The family was however not at liberty to disclose the amount they used to procure the instruments but investigations.
