Tinoonga Mawere| Harare, Zimbabwe – A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) soldier has appeared in court for allegedly burning a bus during the national protests that rocked the nation two weeks ago.

The soldier, identified as Takunda Lawrence Madamombe (22)
appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court where he was charged with burning a Zupco bus and stealing a
motor cycle during the nationwide protests. Madamombe is a member of the Presidential Guard and he is being charged together with one Dennis Maguri (29) of Rydle Ridge
Park and Kudakwashe Gapare (22) of Whitecliff North.

The court heard that Madamombe and his accomplices together with 200 others still at large, were at Whitehouse Shopping Centre along
the Harare-Bulawayo Road where they connived to engage in acts of public violence.

They allegedly barricaded roads with boulders, burnt tyres and threw missiles at the motoring public
after which they stopped a Zupco bus
(registration number AEG 3955 ) – which was travelling to Harare.

Madamombe and his alleged accomplices ordered the bus crew and the passengers to disembark and they torched the bus.
