Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – The role of music in Zimbabwe has remained instrumental in spearheading developmental issues in striking balance in various aspects of life ranging from social aspects to political changes.
Music legends in the likes of Thomas ´Mukanya’ Mapfumo, the late Simon ´Chopper’ Chimbetu and Dixon ´Chinx’ Chingaira are known for their excellent way of denouncing oppression of black majority by the white settler regime.
The sentiments they echoed in thier songs were actually inclined towards optimism of hope at the height of Liberation War Struggle for Independence.
Decades in years down the line none anticipated Jah Praiza’s hits ´Mdara Achauya’ and ´Kutonga Kwaro’ magnified with popular chants like ´Masoja to the world’ to be prophetic in dramatizing the events which caught the general populace unaware dubbed operation restore legacy November 2018.
This year Mavhiki Chenjerai popularly known as ‘Shuramurove’ Notorn based musician of the ´Handichaona’ hit joined his predecessors in advocating for the prevailing of peace and unity in the country.
Shuramurove’s latest single dropout entitled ‘Unity is the best’ entails a lot on the purpose of unity and solidarity in championing the current challenges bedeviling the nation.
According to Shuramurove words of mouth might not be enough to make everyone realize the importance of reconciliation, peace and tranquility in the country but the power of voice in a song can help speak positively to the people.
“The song actually speaks largely to everyone in Zimbabwe regardless of tribe, race, gender and any different form of affiliation to come together in unity and work towards the development of this great nation.”
The single drop out also speaks of how unity led to the attainment of independence in 1980, Unity Accord of 1987 among other aspects of development and the issue of sunctions which could be easily resolved through unity.
Shuramurove is an Afro-Fusion artist have two albums under his belt with Zimbalands a song which feature King of Zoro Music Leonard ‘Karikoga’ Zhakata founding airplay in the waves of local radio stations in 2015.
´Unity is the best’ came as a fore runner to his first ever video yet to appear on screen and subsequently followed by a highly anticipated album sometime later this year.
