Shoko festival is Zimbabwe’s fastest growing arts festival which features poetry slams, live music concerts, comedy, exhibitions, workshops and debates.
This year`s edition is running from September 17 to 22 under the theme ‘We The People’. Six days of entertainment extravaganza featuring more than 250 artists from around the world.
Amongst the artists is Jamaica’s dance hall artist Tony Rebel, South Africa’s hip hop guru Khuli Chana, Canada’s poet lan Kamau, Afrukan (SA) and Symbiz Sound (Germany-South Korea).
The festival aims to create and inspire positive change in the society and it also seeks to break the barriers and link people of different backgrounds and cultures through arts.
The organisers of the festival have created the platforms such as the Roundtable where artists and activist gather for discussions and share experiences.
The Hub Labs Media Training a platform for training media practitioners and is proving to be very popular and helpful.
Despite the economic and political situation in Zimbabwe the festival is getting bigger and better since its 2011 launch.
In the past events Shoko has brought the likes of Mic CrenShaw (USA), Akala (UK), and Tumi and The Volume (SA).
