HARARE, Zimbabwe — Malian music legend Salif Keita has arrived in Harare ahead of the much-anticipated Ecobank Legends Night Africa 2.0, scheduled for Saturday, 26 September, at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare.
Keita touched down in the Zimbabwean capital late on Wednesday, marking another chapter in his long association with the country. The celebrated singer and songwriter is expected to headline an evening bringing together some of Africa and Zimbabwe’s most established musical names.
The Malian icon is set to share the stage with Alick Macheso, Yondo Sister and Intotal Band, alongside a wider line-up of Zimbabwean music legends and established performers. The concert is being presented as a celebration of African musical heritage, bringing together artists from different generations and musical traditions.
Speaking after his arrival, Keita expressed his happiness at returning to Zimbabwe and promised fans a memorable performance. The legendary performer has also told organisers that audiences should expect “fireworks” when he takes to the stage.
Keita’s return comes at an exciting time in his career. News of the South understands from his management that the Malian star is due to begin recording a new album within the next month and a half, with a new project now in preparation.
The forthcoming album will add another chapter to the remarkable career of an artist whose distinctive voice and musical style have earned him international recognition over several decades. For Zimbabwean audiences, however, the immediate focus will be Saturday’s concert.
Keita will be backed by Intotal Band, while the presence of Zimbabwean giants such as Alick Macheso and other established performers promises a night spanning different eras and styles of African music.
The Ecobank Legends Night concept has grown from a celebration of Zimbabwean musical pioneers into a broader platform connecting Zimbabwean legends with celebrated African artists. Organisers have previously described the initiative as a way of preserving the music that shaped generations while creating a bridge between established musicians and younger audiences.
With Salif Keita now safely in Harare, anticipation is building for what promises to be a major weekend on the Zimbabwean entertainment calendar.
The Golden Voice of Africa has arrived — and if his promise is anything to go by, Harare should prepare for fireworks.
News of the South will continue to follow developments surrounding Ecobank Legends Night Africa 2.0.
