Harare, Zimbabwe(News of The South) – The game of politics has been in existence since time immemorial, with the pre-colonial era having been adept with the culmination of both political and religious wars.

A traditional leader was determined to prove his supremacy through the means of showing maximum strength of being a great warrior in subduing an opponent and this would go on until the enemy offers submission to the victor.

This would be accampanied by a peaceful negotiation process which would allow the vanquished leader to continue reigning over his clan and simultaneously owing an oath of allegiance to the victorious king who would eventually be regarded as the sole master of the entire land.

It is in this manner that the government wants to restore the lost pride which would allow reconciliation and forgiveness of kingdoms and clans beyond the point of adversity and wars.

It is a standing fact today that a combination of sub-culture and modernity has gone a long way in engulfing the current generation to the extent that conflicts and outburst of wars are easily undealt with, a predicament that has resulted in the proliferation of unstable atmosphere and violent world.

This is a clear picture that norms and values which used to govern human ethics in the yesterday year have since vanished away from the public sight.

The only elderly community to effectively deal away with the ongoing scourge is the traditional leader who is still well versed with the norms and values which have suffered massive deterioration.

At a meeting held recently in Mazoe with the chiefs mainly from Mashonaland Central Province, Vice President Kembo Mohadi reiterated on the need by the traditional leaders to help incalcate governing effects to the upcoming generations as a socializing agent to spearhead reconciliation and peace building in the entire society.

“During the pre-colonial period our ancestors used to fight for various causes but would always find time to settle thier differences so these are the norms and values which we now want you to inculcate to your children in every part of this society.”

The ideological sentiments envisioned in the african traditional culture allows reconciliation and forgiveness which is now contrary to the culture of modernity where endless conflicts end up costing the entire society with continuous blood massacres.

It is in this view that the popular local television producer Dr Rebecca Chisamba challenged national citizens to go back to the cultural background as it is the ok only way for Zimbabweans to be recognized a sounding base of moral values.

“ People have lost their moral values and this has been negatively affecting our society and it’s now time we go back to our cultural norms where we know how to settle issues amongst ourselves as black people, other countries are very proud of their own culture and why not us as well.”

Over the recent years most people in urban areas are slowly embracing the culture of violence especially the incident which ended in a tragidy where a person was shot dead over a dispute relating to parking discs.
