Zimbabwean Artists from different genres teamed up to produce an HIV and AIDS awareness song titled” For you I will”.
Speaking to News of the South, the brain-child of the song Chamunorwa Mashoko an HIV and AIDS prevention advocate said the song is meant to raise awareness on the methods of preventing the pandemic through various combinations.
“For you I will is a song which is laden with messages towards ending HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe.
“We have decided to teach people about the epidemic through music which caters for all genres so that everyone can listen to the message that is being conveyed”, said Mashoko.
HIV prevention should be everyone’s job so we have decided to combine everything that we know that curb the disease, he said. The song urges people to know their status so that they can be treated early and encourage behavioural change.
The song is unique in that it fuses reggae, pop, rap, rhumba, hip hop jazz and other popular genres which according to Mashoko is vital as it will appeal to a larger audience.
The song encourages people to use the available HIV and AIDS prevention methods such as using condoms, male circumcision and abstinence.
The HIV/AIDS activist said the family is also critical in preventing the spread of the disease.
“Family is very important when it comes to fighting the scourge,” advised Mashoko.
Currently HIV and AIDS prevalence rate is at 14. 3%.
The song was produced in partnership with AVAC (AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition)a global advocacy group for HIV and AIDS.
Artists who featured on the song include Willis Watafi, Wiilbroad Muponda popularly known as Willom Tight, Alexio Kawara, Nadine Stoddart, widow to the late Andy Brown and other artists.
The song was produced by Jairosi Hambahamba and was sung in three languages Shona, Ndebele and English.
