In what can be described as a blow and proof of the disintegrating fortunes of CCC membership in the UK, Dumisani Papaya, has thrown in the towel, and joined ZANU PF.
Once an influencial member of the MDC and subsequent offshoot triple C, Papaya held several key positions, campaigned and mobilised funds for the then Tsvangirai led opposition. He was a key signatory ,together with Washington Ali, Stanford Biti , one Lupfaya to the letters issued by opposition to those individuals who posed as asylum seekers from Zimbabwe.
Speaking to this journalist, Mr Papaya said, “I feel that opposition politics against President Mnangagwa is now an unjustified, futile act. Mores so in the current incoherent and undemocratic manner in which Nelson Chamisa is leading triple C.”
Papaya who confirmed that he has been on the edge of exiting opposition politics since 2021 has now found a home in ZANU PF and has joined the Party’s UK structures.
Commenting on the development , ZANU PF UK District Acting Chairman, Cde Xavier Zavare said, “we have known Dumisani Papaya for years as an opposition figure in the UK. And of course he was among those often calling for the deportation of our members from the UK and for sanctions to be imposed. We are glad he has now seen the light and abandoned the undemocratic and destructive opposition politics. And we welcome him to the revolutionary Party ZANU PF.
Papaya is among the many opposition figures who have been making overtures to join ZANU PF through our UK structures after seeing the great nation building leadership of President ED Mnangagwa, explained Cde Zavare. “We have no problem welcoming them nekuti ,ZANU PF ihomwe huru inokwana tose. We will of course do our due diligence as we embrace them.”
Mr Papaya urged Zimbabweans to rally behind President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership. “I have watched how President Mnangagwa is working tirelessly to improve the economic fortunes of our country through Vision 2030. And I want to be part of that hence retracing my path to ZANU PF”
