Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of the South) –
correspondent, Richmore Tera, who is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, has had one of his poems, “Postcard to Leicester”, featured in the Postcards from Leicester literature programme on nuclear disarmament after it appeared on the pavement at the Clock Tower in Leicester, United Kingdom, recently.
Tera – who is a journalist, poet and short story writer – sent the poem to one of the organizers of the event, Ambrose Musiyiwa, who then featured the poem in the programme where hundreds of people participate by writing their poems or messages of peace on the pavement at the Clock Tower.
Hosted by the East Midlands Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, the event has been running since December 2015, whereby people gather at the Clock Tower for an hour every Friday evening in the name of peace. Participants chalk their messages on the pavement, expressing their feelings on the issue of nuclear disarmament, and it has grown to become one of the biggest and most interactive reading events in Leicester.
After reading about Postcards from Leicester on Facebook, Tera decided to contribute to it through his response poem titled “Postcard to Leicester” which he sent to Musiyiwa who eventually chalked it on the pavement at the Clock Tower as part of the campaign.
In his message to Tera, Musiyiwa said: “Many thanks, Richmore. Below is the version that eventually appeared on the pavement at the Clock Tower.
“Can I forward it to the Leicester Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament for possible inclusion in their newsletter?”
Below is the poem which Tera sent for inclusion in the campaign:
“Leicester, I only know you through the news
And I know you don’t know me
Except through my voice
That has been blown into your ears
By the wind.
Yet, you do not know
How much I love you.
Thank you for the postcards
You have been sending.
Now, here is my own postcard to you.
Hoping for a better world
For both of us
Though living apart.”
