Malawi (News of The South) – The Central Region Football Association (CRFA) has come out in the open and categorically rejected the endorsement which one of its members made on Football Association of Malawi (FAM)’s second vice president, James Mwenda.
A letter which was co-signed by the CRFA chairperson Ajawa and his secretary Bernard Chiwiriwiri Harawa clarified the position of the association, which has sent shock waves to many soccer enthusiasts.
It says, the one who endorsed Mwenda did that in his own capacity and not that of the regional football governing body.
“We have at no any point in time met to discuss about Mr Mwenda’s candidature and a possible endorsement, so what was written in yesterday’s news paper is someone’s personal opinion,” Ajawa said.
A similar endorsement procedure was followed in the northern region where the associations general Secretary Masiya Nyasulu endorsed Mwenda without the consent other executive members.
A week ago one of the keen soccer followers Julius Mithi described a similar scenario taken by the Central region’s soccer officials as undeplorable.
“Failure to endorse a candidate as an association only shows that there are divisions in our regional football governing bodies,
“If an individual can leave all the association members behind and commit such a blunder that only shows how indiscipline certain individuals can be,” Mithi said.
Mwenda is yet to embark on an official campaign trail considering that his manifesto is yet to be released.
Meanwhile, only Leonard Chipanga and James Mwenda have officially declared their interest to contest for the position of president at the December FAM elective general assembly.
The Incumbent association’s president, Walter Nyamilandu has not yet made his position clear as to whether he will contest or not.
