Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-The battle for control of Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) continues unabated with more areas of division coming up as the expelled Kudakwashe Bhasikiti has registered to contest in the Mwenezi by-election on a ZimPF card.
Bhasikiti together with Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo, Munacho Mutezo, Margaret Dongo and two others were expelled from ZimPF by Mujuru on accusations of derailing party activities whilst also spying for ZANU PF.
The move by Bhasikiti is also contrary to a resolution reached by the party in the aftermath of a resounding loss in the Bikita by-election that ZimPF as a party would no longer contest by-elections which the party’s spokesperson described as unnecessary.
Reports by the Election Resource Center (ERC) however have revealed that Bhasikiti together with Joosbi Omar of ZANU PF, Turner Nhango of Freezim Congress and Welcome Masuku of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) led by law professor Lovemore Madhuku are set to contest the 18 April election.
“Mwenezi is set to conduct a by-election of the 8th of April to elect a Member of Parliament following the death of Joshua Moyo of ZANU PF”.
“The Nomination Court sat at Masvingo Magistrate Court on the 17th of February in terms of section 46 of the Electoral Act (Chapter2:13) to receive nominations of candidates who intends to contest for the by-election”.
At the close of the day the four had successfully filed their papers.
Bhasikiti’s move threatens to further derail any reconciliation talks in Mujuru’s ZimPF, a scenario that has wider negative implications with the proposed opposition coalition with Tsvangirai’s MDC-T.
