International observers praised Madagascar’s Friday Presidential elections as free with results starting to trickle in.
Local and international observers on Sunday endorsed the African island’s elections whilst the European Union accounted the elections as transparent.
EU chief election observer, Maria, Muniz de Urquiza described Friday’s polls as credible.
Head of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) observer mission Nandi- Ndaitwah said: “The election was peaceful and transparent thereby embodying the will of people.”
With full elections results to be announced within a week, Louis Robinson is already leading the race with more than 25 percent of the counted votes to his name.
The 33-candidate election is hoped to end years of political turmoil in the African Island which has been under dead lock since 2009.
Top two candidates will compete in a run off scheduled for December 20.
