Tinoonga Mawere(News of the South)- Masvingo- Farmers in Chikombedzi area in Chiredzi District have lost 200 cattle as a result of drought.
According to Information obtained from Chiredzi District Adminstration offices by this publication, Chikombedzi is the most affected area in the district.
Although the number of farmers who have been affected by the catastrophe has not been disclosed, there are fears that the figure is likely to increase as there are no measures in place to curb the loss of livestock.
“We have received a report on the loss of livestock due to drought in Chikombedzi area.
At the moment our focus is on distribution of food aid and there are no immediate plans to curb the loss of livestock,” said a government source. Farmers in Chiredzi have appealed to the government to come up with urgent measures to avert the loss of livestock.
