Africa’s most decorated footballer, Samuel Eto’o is set to rejoin the Cameroon national soccer team after changing his mind on retiring from international football.
Eto’o left the national team popularly known as the indomitable lions on September 8 shortly after leading the team to a 1 nil victory over Libya in the first round of the world cup qualifying stage sighting that he had “personal issues to resolve”
The Chelsea striker made the infamous decision after refusing to train during the week leading up to the Libya match following a dispute with German coach Volker Finke over the team to play.
After the prolific striker made the decision Finke said: “Samuel Eto’o is a great player and it is better that he should be the one to explain things. He is the only one who can explain why he took the decision.”
The 32 year old striker seems to have reconsidered his decision and is now expected to join his fellow troops in France as they prepare to do battle with the North African nation, Tunisia in their weekend playoff match in Tunis on Sunday.
Upon announcing his u-turn, Eto’o told Cameroon state radio: “You can have all the problems in the world but you have to see out your mission.
“And this time it’s to join my team mates in Tunisia and return with a good result.”
It seems Finke called Eto’o’s bluff on the decision to retire as the manager selected the striker even before his decision to make the u-turn.
Eto’o, who moved to Stamford Bridge this summer, has 112 caps and 55 goals for Cameroon since making his debut in 1997.
