London, England. (News of The South) – Covid- 19 infections are at the highest since the peak in early March when the virus took control of the World killing thousands.
The UK converted the Excel Exhibition centre to become the Nightingale Hospital a 4000 bedded hospital. The Nightingale became the World’s largest hospital and England was ready to cater for large volumes of patients affected by the coronavirus. So far more than 70 000 people have died from covid -19 in the UK.
Plans are underway to strip the Nightingale hospital and use the equipment in the hospitals as hospitals are said to be in need of the equipment. Nightingale hospitals built during the first Covid-19 lockdown still remain ‘on standby’ despite parts of England being plunged under draconian Tier 4 measures. Statistics being released by NHS England suggest that infection numbers and hospital admissions are much more than when the pandemic first struck. Hospital staff are said to be exhausted from working long hours and not getting enough rest.
Nightingale hospital has been under utilised as local trusts have been able to absorb and cope with the numbers of admissions within their own expanded critical care capacity.
There is a very huge backlog of all other treatments including operations, cancer treatments and more. If these treatments had gone on at the trust hospitals, Nightingale could have been fully utilised to treat all covid -19 patients. Patients who jad existing conditioms have had some of their treatments shelved aside and some have worsened since the start of the pandemic and lockdowns.
