Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo Clinches EFC Heavyweight Title in Stunning Comeback
Johannesburg, South Africa – Zimbabwean mixed martial arts veteran Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo has achieved a remarkable comeback, capturing the EFC heavyweight title after a seven-year hiatus from the sport. The 41-year-old former boxing champion defeated Anthony Morel from Reunion Islands at EFC 122 on Thursday night, with Morel verbally submitting to Moyo’s relentless pressure just two seconds into the fourth round.
The fight, held at the World Sports Betting Arena, marked a triumphant return to the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) for Moyo, whose last appearance in the cage was seven years prior. This victory comes after a frustrating period for the “Bulawayo Bomber,” who had a bare-knuckle bout against Matunga Djikisa cancelled last October.
Speaking after his victory, an elated Moyo said, “It was a special victory. I am delighted to have won this fight and now I am a champion. I have worked hard for this and I am happy to have made this remarkable comeback. It was a difficult fight; his strategy was to get me to the ground, but I countered that well. I have some knocks on my leg, but I am recovering well.”
Moyo, who weighed in at 118kg compared to Morel’s 115kg, showcased his experience and resilience against his opponent. Morel verbally submitted under the immense pressure from the Zimbabwean fighter, bringing a dramatic end to the contest.
“This means everything to me,” Moyo added. “Coming after all the challenges, the missed fights, the time away, it was not easy. But I stayed focused, kept working, and believed in myself. Tonight, I showed that I’m still a warrior, and I am proud to bring this title back home to Zimbabwe.”
