Johannesburg (News Of The South) – Jackie Selebi, South Africa’s former police commissioner and once ANC official, Interpol president and diplomat died on Friday aged 64.
“He passed on this morning,” ruling ANC party spokesman Keith Khoza said.
In 2011 Selebi was jailed for 15 years for accepting cash gifts from notorious drug trafficker but was freed on parole three years ago.
He had only served for a year before being released and was often seen shopping and driving a BMW in South Africa.
Selebi fell from grace when he became friends with a drug dealer leading to his conviction on graft charges.
“He was one individual who made immense contribution to the liberation of this country,” said Khoza, adding his conviction “was a sad point in his life.”
