Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Farai Matsvunguma the man who is at the helm of success abroad, founder of a vibrant Chicken Company in United Kingdom and sponsor of Zim UK Football Academy will be smiling at the vast innovations and contributions he has championed at his former school in Hwedza.
In 1984 he during his primary level of education was seated on a wooden desk with scrappy edges at the expense of the European and American donors who used render huge donations in the form of books and other essential resources.
This was not a big deal for Farai who then managed to aquire a sounding educational background at Chigwedere Primary School in the down trodden rural communities of Hwedza District as his academic endeavours enabled him as a mere country boy to find a flying ticket to earn a a good living at the heart of the European world.
Few years down the line Cde Fatso as his peers calls him, the London boy came back home as he paid a solitary visit to his ancient he reckoned his same old fashioned desk-bench with scrapped sharp edges in the same corner, but this time around accommodating more pupils beyond its considerable capacity.
In the same vicinity the blair toilet facility had remained the same but the only mark of change which Fatso noticed was the level of outdatedness as their state dilapidation proved to invite a twofold disaster for the students.
Prompted by such a sorry state Farai took a momentous time to embark on a developmental project in the quest to bring light to his former school.
Since Farai’s intervention the ratio per textbook has improved from 1:8 to 1:3 a development which is likely to see every scholar having access to all the learning resources without limitations.
This year tears of joy engulfed community heads, teachers and students through a millennium developmental project which saw Farai Mastvunguma initiating water system, new toilet facility and the construction of a tennis court marking Chigwere Primary School to become the first institution to have such a sports facility in a rural setup.
Speaking at the unveiling of the borehole water facility worth thousands of dollars Fatso reiterated that he took the developmental project to uplift his former school as an honour and giving back to the community.
“This is the school were I did my primary education as a person living in diaspora I thought that it is my responsibility to maintain it so that we prapare the future generation with the necessary resources who shall be doctors and leaders of tomorrow.”
Today the school’s appearance looks evenly appealing from the painting renovations, modern furnitures and students accessing water from the tape.
Columbus Zinyoro an official in the Ministry of Education in Hwedza District commented the good works championed by Farai saying it will go a long way in benefiting the entire community.
“We are really grateful to have a child from this school who worked hard and made it overseas, today he comes back to upgrade the standards of the school, the construction of toilets and the water facility will also benefit the entire community andthe school is now safe from health problems.
Apart from this Farai Matsvunguma is now thriving hard to inspire other Zimbabweans living abroad to emulate his developmental projects in rural communities as a way to bring light to down trodden communities.
