The High Court in Kampala has attached the salary of the state minister for Lands, Aidah Nantaba over Shs23.7million debt.

The money in question arose from court costs awarded to a one Abby Kasolo Kiberu.

The executions Registrar, Tom Chemtai on Tuesday issued an order after Ms Nantaba failed to honour court summons which had earlier been issued against her.

Mr Kiberu’s lawyer had earlier on asked the registrar to issue an arrest warrant for the minister and have her committed to the civil prison for six months.

However, the registrar declined to grant the request and instead ordered that Ms Nantaba’s emoluments from parliament be attached.

The money in question arose out of court costs awarded to Mr Kiberu in November 2014 by High Court judge, Mr Alphonse Owiny-Dollo.

This followed Mr Kiberu successful court petition quash Ms Nantaba’s orders to give away his 38.09-acre piece of land in Wasozi Kitende Village in Wakiso district to another family.

In 2013, Ms Nantaba and her committee had intervened in a land dispute between Mr Kiberu and a one Ms Joyce Namutebi (deceased).

Mr Nantaba and her committee then declared that Ms Namutebi was the rightful owner of the said land. She also declared that the title of the said piece of land near St Mary’s Kitende owned by Kiberu was fake.

Mr Kiberu then petitioned court over the matter and court ruled in his favour. He was awarded costs which the minister is said to have defaulted.

However, the minister could not be reached for a comment as her known telephone numbers were not available by press time. – Monitor
