Pretoria, South Africa (News of The South) – Founder and leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church Shepherd Bushiri, will today together with his wife Mary, appear in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court where they are facing trial for fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
The Bushiri couple was arrested in February this year on allegations of money laundering issues however, they were released on a R100 000 (US$6 000) bail each.
Bushiri has since denied the allegations rather blaming the allegations on conspiracy and vendetta by some people against him due to his popularity.
The ECG leader said this was one of the reasons why charges of fraud and money laundering had been brought against him and his wife.
Bushiri urged his followers to maintain peace ahead of his trial, “I would like to appeal to all those that will be standing with us at the court to maintain calm and peace as all procedures will be taking place.
In the same manner, I would also like to extend many thanks to those that have been sending messages of solidarity though the hashtag #IstandWithMajor1.

Bushiri is hoping to get exonerated against all charges as well as getting back his US$1.2 million 1984 Gulfstream private jet which was impounded by the South African government earlier on this year.
