Brexiteers and the DUP have rejected Theresa May’s deal as Geoffrey Cox warned the UK could be trapped in the backstop indefinitely, despite changes secured by Theresa May from Brussels last night.

In a significant blow for the Prime Minister, the Attorney General said “the legal risk remains unchanged”.

A senior Tory MP then urged Theresa May to call a general election if she loses tonight’s vote.

Charles Walker said Mrs May would have “to get a new mandate for the sake of the country”.

His comments came as the Prime Minister faced another defeat in the Commons. Stephen Gethins, the SNP MP, warned the Prime Minister she would “lose badly” in the vote tonight.

Brexiteers said they would not support her after the DUP and a group of Eurosceptic lawyers rejected the changes she secured from Brussels.

Sir William Cash said: “In the light of our own legal analysis and others we do not recommend accepting the Government’s motion today.”

The lawyers’ advice said: “Yesterday’s documents considered individually and collectively do not deliver ‘legally binding changes’ to the Withdrawal Agreement.” – Telegraph
