Cape Town, South Africa. (News of The South) The Zimbabwe senior netball team, The Gems is soon to leave Harare for Bellville, Capetown to take part in the Africa netball cup but they still need some assistance.
The dire financial situation has caused the first match of the tournament to be rescheduled which was supposed to feature Zimbabwe and Uganda and that match was on at 830am this morning, and at that time Zimbabwe will be checking in at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.
Indications on the ground are that The Gems still require money for accommodation and food for the girls for the duration of the tournament, ZINA has been running around to make sure they make everything available but due to financial challenges in Zimbabwe they are a bit hamstrung and need urgent help to spare the nation of embarrasment.
A couple of years ago, Zimbabwe Rugby slept on the streets of Tunis after failing to secure accommodation in time, with the Gems brand on the up this will surely tarnish not only their image but the country’s.
The Gems dazzled the works with their performances at the world cup and the Zimbabwean community in the diaspora played a huge role as they made sure the girls are comfortable and had everything they needed and this would be a good time for the diaspora community to raise their hands again and help the girls to be African Champs.
The financial challenge has already struck one victim with Tanzania no longer taking part in the 2019 Africa Netball Cup.
Zimbabwes game against Uganda has been rescheduled to 20:00 CAT. South Africa will play two games today, 10:00 against Lesotho and 18:00 against Malawi.
