Zimbabwe is set to have 25 new free-to-air commercial provincial radio stations following last week’s Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe’s call for applications.
Baz made the announcement in the Government Gazette of October 28 2013.

According to the announcement, applications close on January 7 2014.
The new stations are expected to increase media diversity, in terms of ownership, diverse opinion and diverse languages.
Currently, the country has six radio stations.
Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings owns four (Radio Zimbabwe, National FM, SFM and Power FM) while two are private stations.
The two are Star FM, owned by Zimpapers and ZiFM, owned by Deputy Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Supa Mandiwanzira.
