ZANU PF-UK based businessman and philanthropist has paid fees and stationery for more than 200 grade seven and form four pupils in Chartsworth area, Gutu West constituency in Masvingo.
Kudzai Makuku said the donations was a way of giving back to the community though Makuku bus service company, He said the development helps to cushion parents who are failing to pay fees and buy stationery for their children because their efforts were crippled by the lockdown down due to the covid-19 pandemic..
“We understand that during this civid-19 pandemic lockdown most parents are always at home and they are not doing their daily work which earns them some money to pay for children. So far we have paid more than ZW$18 000 for pupils in five schools,” said Makuku.
He said it is heartbreaking seeing children failing to acquire basic education when you can help them with the little that we have hence the step was taken to avoid candidates to miss lessons because of lack of stationery or unpaid fees.
“We believe everyone has got a role to play in preserving the future generation, we try by all means to support government so that basic education is accessible to everyone,” he said.
Matizha primary school headmaster Mr Collen Mawire said he was out of words to describe what Makuku was doing to the candidates.
“We are very grateful as a school, all candidates are catered for by his great works. Most parents in the area cannot afford to pay fees or buy even a pencil for their children but through his helping hand our learning is becoming easier,” said Mr Mawire.
Gertnel government primary school headmaster Mr Artnos Tonhodzayi said the development is most welcome because pupils really struggle to pay fees since and levies had gone up now.
“We do have government programs like Basic BEAM but it is not covering everyone who is incapacitated. We are very grateful with what Makuku is doing for us, our learners will not be disturbed by family’s incapacitation because he had helped them,” said Mr Tonhodzayi.
Makuku who is known for doing a lot of philanthropic work in the area which includes sponsoring football tournaments, donating solar lights to local clinics and also renovating community markets and we currently working to start a orchard tree project which will see all schools having 100-200 fruit tree orchards .
“ We also hope to donate some wheelchairs to our health institutions before year end , we have noticed that there is a shortage of wheelchairs and we have starting compiling names of our disabled people who will also be getting these wheelchairs , said Makuku.
