Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Wicknell Chivayo’s name has become synonymous with controversy in Zimbabwe, marked by allegations of corrupt activities and a highly visible, extravagant lifestyle. Chivayo has been known for his connections to influential political figures in Zimbabwe. This has played a role in the acquisition of large government contracts, particularly in the energy sector.Zimbabweans have raised concerns about Chivayo and everytine they complain he hits back with purchase of csrs and donations of huge sums of money to people who are already considered to be living comfortable lives.
A notable case involves the Gwanda solar project, where his company, Intratrek Zimbabwe, was awarded a substantial contract by the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA). This project became a focal point for corruption allegations, with questions raised about the use of allocated funds. Wicknell has continously gailed to account for all the funds.
Chivayo has faced numerous accusations of corruption and fraud. Investigations by the Zimbabwean Parliament have sought to scrutinize the handling of funds related to his government contracts. Recently, he has been involved in allegations of inflated pricing regarding election material contracts. Chivayo is well-known for his lavish displays of wealth. His social media presence often features images of luxury vehicles, expensive goods, and large sums of money. This display of wealth, in a nation facing economic hardships, has drawn significant criticism and fueled public perception of corruption.
Chivayo has faced legal scrutiny, including arrests and investigations related to corruption charges. Reports show that he has had past legal issues dating back to before the Mugabe era. His activities have been seen by many to occur within a context of political connections, and therefore has increased public distrust of governmental processes.
