The district growth point with a population of more than 5000 people is plunged into chaos. The district hospital and patients are all in a state of anguish and outbreak of some diseases are feared and are looming.
The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) pumps are said to be down and they said engineers are working on it.However this is a risk to residents as they queue at nearby two boreholes which cannot cope with the number of people. Those who have cars are in the business as they fetch and ferry the business water from Tokwe river and sell it for $0,50 a bucket and a family of even three people cannot survive with 20litres of water which should be used for cooking, washing, cleaning and bathing.
Although some residents said Chivi Rural District Council want to take water rights from ZINWA residents said the council is even failing service delivery and what more on issues of water which needs pumps and chemicals.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) a person should travel a distance of less than 2kms for safe drinking water therefore this is a violation of right to water to the people of Chivi Growth Point.
