A KADOMA-based hip-hop artist Patrice Chisamba has hailed pirate radio stations for putting him on spotlight in a country where there are only six commercial radios.
The musician said it has been a mammoth task for him to get airplay on the current licensed radio stations.
“I have been trying hard to get airplay on the radio stations not until I got airplay on one of the radio stations that broadcast on Channel Zim and the result has been overwhelming for me as people even
request for my song called ‘Hope hadzichabatiki’ on the satellite radio,” said the 20-year-old lad.
The former Jameson High student said he is also using the social networks like reverbnation to market his music.
“I am also putting my music on reverbernation so as to reach out to a larger audience since people who listen to my kind of music are young and mostly technologically savy,” quipped the musician.
He says he got into music in 2006 through his cousin Eben Songola who is now a member of group called Terben that is now doing it big in South Africa.
Affectionately as Trice, he is inspired by Maskiri and would like to collaborate with him in the near future.
Zimbabwe is among countries that have few licensed commercial and community radio stations. The state-run ZBC controls 4 radio stations while Star FM is owned by Zimpapers and lastly ZIFM owned by Supa Mandiwanzira.
