Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of the South) – United Nations on Wednesday handed over a set of Sculptures worth thousands of dollars to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe aimed at promoting peace.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held in the capital, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) Resident Representative Bishow Parajuli urged people to hold peace to avoid war which leaves people crippled and disabled.

Mr Bishow said those remarks while handing over a set of Sculptures entitled peace to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, which was done by Zimbabwean Sculptor guru Dominic Benhura at his Dominic Benhura Studio.

“The purpose of donating these Sculptures is to promote peace across the world, imagine there is no peace, there is conflict, what can happen? Look at those Sculpts, A mother doesn’t have a leg and an arm, the father has both legs missing and son has no both hands due to wars. So it can destroy the whole family and that is a usual element which is existing in possible war due to conflicts.

“So what we are saying is we must stay in peace, embrace peace otherwise we will destroy ourselves.

Speaking at the same occasion, internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean sculptor Dominic Benhura expressed his gratitude to UNDP and urged people to settle their conflicts and promote peace.
“I am very happy for the gesture UNDP has made to us. They asked me to make a Sculptor about peace, and l then decided how war affects people differently out there.

“Kids are mostly affected during wars, and since there are our future leaders, Sculptors, Soccer stars, after war their future is doomed and of the country as well.

“So making these Sculptors, l wanted to encourage people out there to settle their differences so as to avoid conflicts and wars which destroys our future leaders.

United Nations donated a set of Sculptures of a family affected during war. It comprised of a Father with one leg and one arm, mother with both legs amputated and a son with both no hands.
