Recently deceased Zimbabwean music legend Dr Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi has been honoured with national hero status.
The decision was made by the Politburo, making Dr Mtukudzi the first musician and non political citizen in the country to be awarded this status.
This comes as a great consolation and response to the outcries of the multitides of Zimbabweans across all walks of life who had been lobbying for the icon to be recognised as one. The campaign for Tuku’s hero status was started by outspoken Norton Legislator Temba Mliswa and was also echoed by MDC-Alliance leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa as well as the icon’s fellow legend Dr Thomas Tafirenyika Mapfumo.
A national hero is not about the gun alone and I am hoping that leadership
recognises his (Tuku) his contribution, ” Mapfumo said.
