By Dr. Masimba Mavaza
December 26th, a day after Christmas, 1979. A day that will forever be etched in our nation’s history. A day when duty called, and the son of the soil, Josiah Magama Tongogara, answered, giving his last breath.
Born on February 4th, 1938, Tongogara was a commander who preached peace through war, unity, and a Zimbabwe free from racial oppression. He was a visionary leader, a unifier, and a true patriot who gave his all for our nation’s freedom.
As we reflect on his life, we’re reminded of his unwavering commitment to our country’s liberation. He left behind a legacy of courage, resilience, and selflessness. A true hero who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
Tongogara’s story is one of sacrifice, love, and devotion. He was a man who stood tall, despite the odds, and fought for what he believed in. His name will forever be etched in our nation’s history books as a champion of freedom and justice.
As we pause to remember Tongogara, let’s also honor the countless men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s liberation. Their bravery, selflessness, and dedication to our country’s freedom will never be forgotten.
“Liberty is a precious gift, and we must cherish it.” Let’s strive to be worthy of their sacrifice. Let’s work towards building a Zimbabwe that’s united, peaceful, and prosperous.
Rest in peace, Tongogara. Your legacy lives on.
*Long live the spirit of our heroes.*
*Tezvara gamba, we salute you.*
