Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – A trio of girls from the University of Zimbabwe, Ashley Muremba, Rosemary Gwandu and Nicole Kurebwasweka started their own company, Women’s Voice at the age of 21.
It has been three years now since they have started their Company.
Women’s voice is all about empowering women and giving them the recognition that they deserve but are not getting.
It seeks to amplify the voice of women and girls in Zimbabwe. The main aim is to see rural women and girls empowered and their stories told.
They say that women and girls are consumers of content and very few are creators and their issues are reported with a shrinking media space and access to media is difficult hence most issues are never reported particularly in marginalised communities such as the rural areas.
Women’s voice aims at limiting the marginalisation of women by giving them a platform that they can be able to air out all that they are feeling and that helps improve their ways of living.
They also aim to increase the digital footprint of women and girls, their success, challenges, achievements and they do this through universities.
The media is used to engage, advocate, inform and educate people about the need to empower women.
“There is something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world.
“It takes certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness and the nerve to never take no for an answer,” they said.
With the financial and equipment support from Zimbabwe Women’s Bureau and Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association Zvishavane women have embarked on this journey determined to bring their vision to fruition and fill the need they see in their societies.
