Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Zimbabwe is facing a very difficult situation where every single person is feeling the pain be it a government worker or one from a private sector. Where you just wake up to realize that a certain amount of money is no longer working and where we cannot use our money in any other country than this one.
One can only imagine what the children in orphanages may be going through. In our advocacy project at school we got to work with a children’s home where we really got to see what they are going through. One of the interviewed mothers said where they used to get donations on a daily basis now the donations have totally frozen and visitors only come to show their love because they also do not have anything else to give.
They also spoke about how they tried making gardens in order for them to try and sustain themselves but that too failed because it was not raining and ZINWA water was always unavailable.
In a bid to try a figure what the children ate and what they were lacking we had them play a game where they would give the name any food stuff specifically from what they ate in the orphanage. After about 10 children they ran out of things to mention and started repeating the things that the others had said. This really showed the lack of variety in their diet.
This really gives an insight of what the children are going through and l bet this leaves one wondering what they can do to help. Whenever you have excess food in your home please remember those children who are struggling at an orphanage near you.
