The international watchdog for chemical weapons, Organisation for The Prohibition of Chemical Weapons OPCW has confirmed that Syria has destroyed all its chemical weapons production units.
Under a disarmament timetable, Syria was entitled to destroy all chemical production and mixing units before November 1, and today it met the target.
According to reports, the international watchdog said, this development comes after Syria was given an ultimatum on the ambitious disarmament program.
Under a Russian-American deal, Damascus agreed to destroy all its chemical production and mixing units after they threatened to forcefully respond after many lives were lost to sarin attack in Damascus.
“By November ,1 Syria will not have the capacity to produce chemical weapons bringing a need to phase one and two,” confirmed media correspondents in Instabul.
“Phase three will last to June next year and the UN mission support will monitor all destruction of 1000 tonnes of chemical weapons as the OPCW has no mandate to do so,” they added.
