Pretoria, South Africa (News Of The South) Congratulations to the newly sworn in South African President, Mr. Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. The African National Party (ANC) leader, now the 5th President of The Republic of South Africa was inaugurated today following his ruling party’s 57.5% victory in this month’s election.
Delegates from around the globe flocked to Pretoria to witness the ceremony hosted at the Loftus Stadium and show support to the new South African President. International dignitaries who attended the inauguration include Zim President E. D Mnangagwa, Ugandan President Kaguta Museveni, amongst 40 heads of state, African Union chair, Moussa Fakimahamat and many more organizational representatives.
The stadium housed thousands who attended the inauguration, which was also live streamed on various television channels and radio, as well as online.
The crowd was ecstatic, from the various performances that kept them entertained throughout the day. The marching of soldiers, which was both entertaining and a showcase of strength was spectacular beyond words. South Africa also made history today by sending their first female fighter pilot Major Nomcebo Mfeka to the sky. The fighter plane display that she was a part of, left the crowd begging for more. The paratroopers were also hailed for their amazing performance.
The traditional performers dancing and reciting songs of jubilation brought excitement as witnessed by an ANC supporter from the crowd, he said “the respect showed by the President by including aspects of culture and identity on his inauguration is phenomenal, especially joining the Bapedi and Venda dancers on the pitch”. @modiehi-thulo tweeted “nothing more beautiful than seeing the president with his people, doing the Tshikona dance and respecting the culture! And those Vhavenda ladies! Oh man! Day made. Phakama (Arise) Ramaphosa Matamela!”
“A new era has dawned in our country. A brighter day is rising upon South Africa and upon our beloved continent, Africa. Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrica (Lord bless Africa)…We must value excellence and shun mediocrity to help take our nation forward.” says the newly sworn in President.
Ramaphosa has made promises to reform South Africa since he took over presidency from Jacob Zuma who was pressured to resign amid corruption scandals. He echoed his promises during the campaign period, from eradicating unemployment and curbing poverty. With all these promises he made when he was coming into office, one can only hope he fulfills his dream and delivers the promises. South Africans are excited and convinced the President will do prodigious work in the office and serve them well.
