MBABANE – It seems the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) takes the fitness of Sihlangu players seriously.
Musa Mathunjwa, a highly rated local physical trainer who is based in South Africa was drilling the national side over the past week.
His latest assignment was in the side’s 1-all draw with Mozambique in an international practice match in Matola outside Maputo on Sunday. Word coming from Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga’s charges was that Mathunjwa, who is currently studying in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, came on board last Tuesday.
NFAS CEO Frederick Mngomezulu confirmed Mathunjwa’s engagement but was quick to say it was on a short-term basis. He could not disclose the finer details of the engagement.
“Luckily Mathunjwa is currently studying physical training in South Africa, so his knowledge comes in handy,” he said.
“We can’t say we’ll end up engaging him on a full-time basis at this stage.”
Sihlangu once had a Belgian physical trainer in Kamiel D’Hyuetter when former coach Valere Billen was in charge. The latter’s contract was not renewed in October this year.
The national side was in camp over the past week to stay in shape ahead of major tournaments next year that include the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.
The camp ended after the Mozambique clash. Apparently the latter, who are preparing for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) next month proposed a return match on Boxing Day. Mngomezulu said it was impossible because local players were already on the festive season break.- Times of Swaziland
