By HRH Princess Eugene Majuru – ( Princess of Harare)

It is very important to note that Mbare musika market is a spiritual place owned by the Harare Mbari clan. The name Mbare comes from the late great King of Harare Mbari Kingdom, his name was King Mbari. It should also be noted that the name Mbare is a corrupted name and should read as “Mbari” rather than Mbare, the spelling mistake has never been corrected till today.

The name Harare itself is also a corrupted name and should be spelt as Haarari rather than Harare. King Mbari had special abilities which he used to help people so many travelled from afar to seek King Mbari’s services. Due to the fact that too many people were consulting King Mbari ended up not sleeping , he would work throughout the night and he was then given the nickname “ Haarari” meaning the one who doesn’t sleep. So Harare the name of Zimbabwe ‘s capital city comes from the nickname of the late and former King.

With all the importance that comes with Harare and all the spirituality that comes with it we see how 44 years after Independence Zimbabwe has failed to resuscitate the Harare Mbari Kingdom.
Mbare Musika is situated on a spiritual location within the Kingdom, in the olden days there was a muhacha tree at Mbare musika where cultural and traditional ceremonies of the Mbari were conducted. The Muhacha tree is known as the mobola plum, cork tree or hissing tree in English. Years ago this tree was chopped down due to lack of knowledge about its significance and the history that comes with it, this tree was for protection of the area so that people who live in Mbare can live peacefully and was used for appeasing any problems in the area.

On the Eastern part of Harare we have the Mukuvisi River. Mukuvisi was previously named Mukuyazviyo, Mukuyazviyo was a big snake which lived in the Mukuvisi waters, it was a big and spiritual. ( In Mazoe there is the famous huge snake which crossed the road from 6am to 6pm and all traffic was halted while the giant snake crossed the road, the spiritual snake also belongs to the Mbari Kingdom)

From Mbare musika market, Rufaro Stadium up to Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) studios this area is a spiritual hub spirits still exist in that area. There were appeasements and traditional activities which were conducted there and these were dine to maintain peace and prevent problems and all these can only be done by the Mbari clan, no one else can do it or resolve any problems that occur in the area. Traditional ceremonies were done to make sure the people lived peacefully in the area. Since colonialism these appeasement ceremonies have never been done that’s why we see the numerous problems which occur in Mbare cannot be resolved. Only descendants of the Mbari King from the same bloodline have the ability and capability to resolve these problems. The Harare city council and Zimbabwean government cannot and do not have a clue on how to resolve the spiritual problems in Mbare and the rest of Harare Kingdom. Today 19 October 2024, I speak as Princess of Harare, I speak from the mandate , wisdom, authority and power bestowed on me by by Ancestors who have also given me their blessings to tell Zimbabweans how the non resuscitation of Harare Mbari Kingdom prolongs problems for Zimbabwe.

Zimbabweans talk about the Mbare musika devastating fire and many speculations about the area, the area has its spiritual powers and cannot just be thrown away or considered as a useless place, Zimbabwe is not functioning or moving forward because it’s lacking the much needed and important traditional administration. At this point all Zimbabweans need to be pushing for resuscitation of the Harare Kingdom and should be hands on deck to support the clan to do what they need to do to resolve the problems.

Five traditional Chiefs from the Chiefs Council this week consulted the Mbari clan on the devastating fire in Mbare and were reminded that the outstanding traditional resuscitation status of Harare Kingdom is the answer tovresolving problems, the Chiefs Council led by Chief Khumalo and Chief Fortune Charumbira should be meeting to discuss resuscitation of Harare Kingdom they are fully aware of the traditions and culture of Zimbabwe and about how spiritual problems in an areas can only be resolved by owners of the land who are the custodians.

Recently we have witnessed restoration of various chieftainships across the country and yet Harare which is the most important one is being ignored. In Chiredzi we saw restoration of Chilonga community. All Zimbabweans should fully understand how these issues affect them. Zimbabwe should not use selective restoration but all chieftainships affected by colonialism should be rescuscitated.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ mantra says “We are leaving no one and no place behind” , Harare Kingdon is being left behind it has been left behind for such a long time. Former President Robert Mugabe as traditional as he was, simply ignored the resuscitation of Harare, he heard the calls for resuscitation and did nothing despite promising to have it resolved, the only thing that managed to do was ask Mbari clan to resolve spiritual problems such as they drying up of Mazoe Dam, they had to build the Dzivarasekwa army barracks 7 times and every morning the structures would be demolished. The government consulted the Mbari clan who then held a traditional ceremony to ask their ancestors to resolve the problem and only then could the barracks be built.
According to Section 283 (b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, there is provision for the creation and resuscitation of traditional chieftainships in accordance with the prevailing culture, customs, traditions and practices of communities.
