Below is a press statement from the Democracy Advocate Initiative (DAI) trust :
DELIVER OR VACATE OFFICE
The government has de-prioritised service delivery and the general welfare of the people of Zimbabwe—against the backdrop of corruption and misgovernance, the death of service delivery has shackled the majority of the people to poverty and human indignity.
We demand government immediately take concrete steps to address the deepening governance crisis that continues to deny many Zimbabweans the fruits of independence and has seen only a politically connected few disproportionately benefit from the country’s wealth. Citizens’ basic rights to water and sanitation, education, decent jobs, and healthcare have been-under the government’s watch, transmogrified into privileges for the politically connected elite.
We demand government address in the next twenty-six [26] days the following service delivery Chimurenga/uMvukela demands:
[a] corruption and the growing chasm between the politically connected haves and the majority have nots.
[b]joblessness.
[c]pathetic water and sanitation delivery across towns and cities countrywide.
[d] rolling power outages
[e] poor public healthcare service delivery.
[f] performance link the salaries of all public funded entities.
Failure by government to address the above citizen demands and arrest the evil status quo that has begotten a terminal erosion of hard earned taxpayers money will invite rolling mass protests.
Service delivery Chimurenga/uMvukela:
As citizens we have over the years made the misstep of outsourcing our basic responsibility to hold government to account for public resources to political parties; that in some ways brought us where we are today!.Service delivery Chimurenga/uMvukela is the thousands of students dropping out of school and college thanks to an unresponsive government demanding their right to education. It is the jobless robbed of a future by corruption and ill governance taking back their future; it is the people of Tokwe Mukosi demanding government do the right thing. Service delivery Chimurenga/uMvukela is the affirmation that we are all one before we choose to allow self-serving politicians to divide us—it is the millions of Zimbabweans outraged by Pathetic service delivery saying enough is enough.
Service delivery Chimurenga/uMvukela objectives:
[a] promote democracy beyond the ballot box through empowering citizens to hold government to account.
[b] advance good service delivery.
