Pallisa. – Patients at Pallisa General Hospital were last Friday left unattended to after the health workers abandoned work to express solidarity with their colleagues who were sued over the death of a mother during labour.

Mr Bosco Obete, the head of the hospital management committee, told reporters that the morale of the staff at the hospital has been at its lowest since October 16 when their colleagues were sued by relatives of Jessica Alupo who died due to over bleeding last month.

Mr Obete said most health workers deserted work for more than six hours as they attended a court session at Kalaki-Pallisa Court. Dr John Angiro and Sister Anna Akurut are accused by the relatives of the deceased of negligence that could have led to the death of Ms Alupo.

“The workers here feel unappreciated by the community and relatives of those they attend to,” Mr Obete told the press.

One nurse who spoke on condition of anonymity said they will desert work whenever there is a court session on the case.
