Malawi (News of The South) – A group of soccer enthusiasts calling themselves concerned football lovers have presented a petition to the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) to consider nominating the Incumbent president of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Walter Nyamilandu as president.

Led by Kalowe Ajasi the group stormed the Association’s offices at the BAT Ground on Monday carrying a number of placards containing messages of praise for what they say Nyamilandu has achieved.

Speaking after delivering the petition, Ajasi said they feel satisfied with the way Nyamilandu has initiated a number of soccer development programs in the country.

“We came here to present an endorsement petition to the SRFA for Water Nyamilandu to stand again,

“Look! we have the Chiwembe stadium and he is a FIFA member which is a previlege to us as well,” Ajasi said.

And in an interview after receiving the petition, the SRFA General Secretary, Denis Kachala expressed gratitude with the concerned soccer fans whom he said have expressed their democratic right.

“We have received their petition and we shall meet in the next few days coming and see what we can do about it,

“We are living in a democratic dispensation so football is also not spared, so this is one of the fruits of democracy and as SRFA we are happy about this,” Kachala said.

According to Kachala, the concerned football lovers have been the first to reach them for a possible consideration to nominate of a candidate.

One of the country football analysts Charles Nyirenda described the move taken by the soccer followers as the beauty of democracy.

“In democracy people can choose whom they want, so if some people feel someone has the ability to run the Association the way they want, then I think let their voices be heard,” Nyirenda said.

Another group of soccer enthusiasts in the northern region have been demonstrating at the Mzuzu stadium calling for Nyamilandu to consider contesting again on the position of president at the December FAM elective general assembly.
