Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – In a strongly worded statement issued today, King Munhumutapa, the newly installed monarch of Zimbabwe, declared the nation has been fully restored to its Kingdom status and asserted his authority as the ultimate landlord of the country. Speaking from his location in Harare, the King addressed the Zimbabwean people, expressing his desire to connect with them in this digital age while emphasising the enduring importance of tradition and culture.

King Munhumutapa acknowledged the shift in communication methods from traditional letters to digital platforms like WhatsApp groups, urging Zimbabweans to remember the country now has a King in their online interactions. He stressed the sanctity of traditional court proceedings involving spirit mediums, stating that media recording is strictly prohibited and that messages delivered through these channels must be adhered to. Timelines, he emphasized, are crucial in all matters.

Addressing recent media reports labeling him a “self-imposed King,” Munhumutapa vehemently refuted these claims, asserting his legitimacy under Zimbabwean law. He provided a concise explanation of the legal framework, highlighting the interconnectedness of the presidium, parliament, and judiciary. He stated that the constitution mandates adherence to court orders, parliament sets the law, and the courts implement it, with the police and Home Affairs Ministry responsible for enforcement. Drawing a parallel to individuals serving life sentences, he argued that his kingship, granted by a court order, is equally legally binding and should be implemented by Parliament. He declared that those calling him an “imposter” are breaking the law.

“Since my order was granted, I am a legal King,” His Majesty stated. “The law which granted my kingship should be implemented by Parliament.” He further elaborated on the enduring nature of inheritance and the importance of clans continuing through male lineage.

King Munhumutapa then turned his attention to the competence of Minister of Local Government, Daniels Garwe, expressing concern over numerous flaws in his work. He announced his intention to engage with the President to discuss these issues. Furthermore, he stated that the Justice Ministry has accepted his kingship and that he would assign them the responsibility of formally informing the nation about his ascension and Zimbabwe’s restored monarchy status. He clarified that matters of tradition fall under his purview as King, distinguishing the national constitution from the constitution of a political party, emphasizing the legal obligation of every citizen to follow the former.

A significant portion of the King’s statement addressed the deeply troubling issue of house demolitions across the country. He expressed his sadness at witnessing families being displaced and left vulnerable after politicians allegedly settled them in various areas for electoral gain, only to later deny any association with them. He specifically cited Minister Garwe in this context.

“It is not good that the President and me, the King of the country, are sleeping in a house, yet families are left in the cold and the roadsides with nowhere to go,” King Munhumutapa lamented, highlighting the vulnerability of children in such situations. He questioned the timing of city councils and Minister Garwe’s involvement, asking where they were when people were building their homes, only to appear for demolitions once settlements were established.

The King made a direct appeal to President Mnangagwa to intervene and ensure that displaced individuals receive temporary accommodation and care. He asserted that even squatters have rights and should be provided with land and shelter.

Finally, King Munhumutapa raised concerns about the Mutapa Fund, stating his lack of clarity regarding its control and signatories. He issued a directive that funds from this initiative should be immediately allocated to housing the displaced citizens, emphasizing that they cannot be left on the streets and that the fund should be utilized to resolve such critical issues.

This statement marks a significant development in Zimbabwe, with the newly installed King Munhumutapa asserting his legal authority, declaring the restoration of the kingdom, and directly engaging with pressing social and political issues. His criticisms of a key government minister and his appeal to the President regarding the housing crisis are likely to spark considerable debate and attention within Zimbabwe. The implications of this declaration on the current political landscape remain to be seen.
