Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Zimbabwe’s President Mugabe risks facing charges of crimes against humanity if he relinquishes power and only VP Emerson Mnangagwa can guarantee the aged leader safety and protection, a ZANU PF member has said.

Vocal Mugabe critic and ZANU PF member Energy Mutodi has warned President Mugabe that only VP Emmerson Mnangagwa can guarantee his safety if he facilitates his getting into power.

This is against the other option which includes facing off against the coalition of Tsvangirai and Mujuru and assuming that the two will not have Mugabe charged for his iron fisted rule.

In a rambling statement he released Mutodi said Tsvangirai has been a victim of political violence and would not stand by his word not have the President prosecuted.

“Tsvangirai has promised that he will not prosecute Mugabe for any crimes but Mugabe does not believe him”.
“The opposition leader is a victim of political violence under Mugabe’s rule and will not forgive Mugabe and his corrupt ministers easily”.
“Even if Mugabe was to die in office, he would not have done any favor to his family as his wife and children are most likely to pay for his sins”.
“Only Emmerson Mnangagwa will guarantee Mugabe’s safety after leaving office.
Any other way is a big gamble that could prove disastrous”, he said.

Mutodi said the proposed opposition coalition was gathering steam and against it Mugabe had little chance of winning.

“A grand coalition that is shaping up between his former deputy Joice Mujuru and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai may end his rule; making him vulnerable to prosecution for crimes against humanity allegedly committed during his long iron fist rule”.
“His children and his wife also risk torture and extra-judicial punishment if a successor comes through a hostile take-over such as an electoral defeat”.
“Mugabe therefore needs to manage his succession properly by either calling for an extra-ordinary congress that will elect his successor or by nominating his choice through a politburo resolution”.
“Anyone nominated by him is sure to win against the coalition and will guarantee him a peaceful exit and an undisturbed retirement”, Mutodi said.

President Mugabe has remained mum on the issue of his successor despite his continued frailty and keeps on harping about his being selected by the party to represent it during the forthcoming 2018n elections.

In the aftermath of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema accusing ZANU members of cowardice and failing to remove Mugabe, the party retorted with rejoinders to the effect that it was their business to mind.

Meanwhile the proposed opposition coalition has remained stewing without gathering much steam leading to fears that what happened in Gambia and Kenya may not happen in Zimbabwe after all.
