MDC-T Promises $100b Economy in First 100 days
Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-The MDC-T has promised the creation of a $100 billion economy within the first 100 days after assuming power in 2018.
In a media interview the party’s shadow economic minister Tapiwa Mashakada said the party already has a credible transformation agenda that will revitalise the economy from the crisis in which it is currently mired.
“Our economic vision is the creation of a $100 billion economy within the first 100 days on the back of investment renewal and confidence that will result in the review of the indigenisation policy”
“Production will be our buzzword and obviously, using out international goodwill, the MDC will go out to float infrastructure Eurobonds in deep capital markets”
“We will get syndicated off-shore loans on the strength of our economic stimulus measures”
“An MDC government will make primary and secondary education absolutely free and introduce loans and grants at tertiary education level. We will bring back the land market by giving bankable title to all productive farmers”
Mashakada promised that his government will industrialise the country again through a number of ventures.
“We will revamp our roads, railways and energy plants. Parastatals will either be commercialized or recapitalized through private equity or venture capital”
“Rural areas will be transformed through our industrialisation and modernization programme. But most importantly we will implement evolution”
“All revenues will go to the Consolidated Revenue Fund and fundraising roadblcosk will be suspended forthwith”
“Our industrialisation programme will start with resuscitation of closed companies like the Ziscosteel. We will create jobs from our infrastructure and industrialisation plan. All this is possible if we can change governance culture”, he said.
The MDC-T vision however remains a far dream as in the immediate the party has to navigate the treacherous pathway past an election against ZANU PF.
Despite the factional fights that have engulfed the revolutionary party, it remains a formidable enemy at the polls due to its tactics which often take no prisoners in the drive to win.
The MDC-T has however don’t itself some measure of good after signing MOU’s with Joyce Mujuru’s National People’s Party (NPP) and Welshman Ncube’s MDC, preliminary agreements to come up with an opposition electoral coalition in 2018.
