RUSAPE, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – A Machete gang besieged and killed a Rusape man for not producing lobola money that had been paid for her daughter.

The father, Boas Mamutse of Gweremwezhe village was assaulted to death by a group of machete-wielding gang also referred to as “MaShurugwi” demanding that he gives them the money paid for the bride price.

Manicaland Province Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said: “MaShurugwi assaulted Boas Mamutse of Gweremwezhe village demanding money he received as lobola for one of his daughters.”

The inspector proceeded saying, the machete gang ambushed the household covering their faces, holding knives and machetes and they tied them up with cloth and ropes together with two of Boas daughters demanding lobola money that was recently paid.

In most cases, “mashurungwi” are well identified by huge machetes and this is not the first time hearing about them, as they came way back causing havoc in different mines and even in local suburbs harassing people and brutally beating or killing them in most scenarios.

Mamutsa was found by one of his daughters, who managed to untie herself. He was in a pool of blood and she immediately called out for help from a neighbor, who then rushed him to Rusape General Hospital.

Mamutse was pronounced dead on arrival at Rusape General Hospital and the gang of Mashurugwi that killed him is still at large.

The suspects took US$7 and an undisclosed amount in local currency and vanished from the scene leaving the family tied with cloths and rope.

The police is appealing to members of the public who might know the gang that committed the crime to come forward, as they need to face the justice.
