Cardiff, Scotland. – (News of The South) – The Scottish government is planning on donating 1 000 computers to help trainee teachers and students in Malawi.
Turing Trust a Scottish non-governmental organization will be distributing the computers which are expected to benefit over 18 000 students in developing their information technology skills.
“I am very pleased that the Scottish government will be donating 1 000 more computers to the Turing Trust, an excellent charity that works to improve digital literacy in sub-Saharan Africa.
These computers will be serviced and securely cleansed of data before being taken to Malawi for use by students and trainee teachers,” said Ben Macpherson Scotland’s International Development minister.
The computers, are no longer suitable for use in the Information and Technology Services Division, of Scotland’s government.
Meanwhile, Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) announced that all teachers across Malawi will stage a sit-in starting tomorrow.
TUM’s Secretary General, Charles Kumchenga, said the strike will be done following the failure of government to pay the monthly salaries of December last year to almost 5 000 teachers across the country.
